March 8, 2019: “Think fairly, build smart, innovate for change”

International Women’s Day, celebrated every year on March 8, will have the theme this year : “Think fairly, build smart, innovate for change”

This year the celebration aims to reflect on the substantial means that can improve gender equality and the empowerment of women. To do this, the following areas were targeted: social protection systems, access to public services and the construction of sustainable infrastructure.

The implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted in 2015 mandates lasting changes, integrated approaches and new solutions, especially with regard to gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.

If we rely on current curves, they show that current actions are insufficient to establish a 50-50 planet by 2030. To rectify this insufficiency, innovative approaches are needed to eliminate structural obstacles and to kind of taking into account all women and girls.

Innovation and technology are key sectors to close the gap but the digital divide is growing between the sexes, women are less present in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and design . This digital divide is an obstacle for women to put all their weight behind a positive transformation of society.

International Women’s Day 2019 will be aimed at industry leaders, game-changing startups, social entrepreneurs, and all those who campaign for gender equality as well as only to innovative women. Objectives, to see how innovation can help remove barriers and accelerate progress towards gender equality, encourage investments in gender-sensitive social systems and build services and infrastructure adapted to the needs of women and girls. On March 8, 2019, stand with us to augur a future where innovation and technology will open new doors for women and girls, so they can play an active role in building more inclusive systems , efficient services and sustainable infrastructure that will help achieve the SDGs and gender equality more quickly.
